Update: 2/27
Spartans,
As the Season approaches its end, I would Like to Share My
Thoughts with all of You.
Believe it or not, a Beginner wrestler struggling to score
their first takedown and the State Placer going for win 100 are the same.
They both have determination, guts, and heart to walk out onto
the mat alone and give 110% for six minutes in the most elemental, primal form,
of human sporting competition.
They will both have moments of fear. They will both have
moments of triumph.
There will be times when the third period feels like a
lifetime or when the entire match feels like fleeting seconds.
They will both have goals. The goal might be to not get
pinned. The goal might be to score a tech fall.
They will both work hard toward their ultimate goal of having
the ref grab their wrist and raise their hand in the air....to capture the
moment when they were the best.
They will trade hundreds and hundreds of hours of training and
gallons of sweat for that one moment of elation.
They will endure pain, stress and hunger for the opportunity
to step into that circle in the center of the gym and show what they are made
of.
So when the Beginner Wrestler gets his hand raised for the
first time, he'll cherish the moment and will feel the same way the State Placer
feels when his hand goes up for the 100th time.
When the State Placer gets win 100 deep inside he'll remember
his first win because the sensation of winning is still the same...that's why
they both compete...to capture those moments.
My hat is off to any kid that has the raw courage to
participate in this great sport.
When all is said and done you will have earned much more than
a record of wins and losses.
You will be viewed as an elite athlete, a fierce competitor, a
true warrior, a Spartan.
You will have earned respect, admiration and trust from your
coaches, teammates, opponents and fans.
You will carry with you what you have learned on the mat the
rest of your life and be better for it.
Congratulations to All of You on a Great Season
And Thank You All for Sharing these Memorable Events with
Me.
Best of Luck on the off Season, and See you all Next
Year.
Coach G.
Update: 2/25
The Spartans fell a little short Monday Night.
Loosing to Long Branch 50-49 was Hard to Swallow but It Was an Epic
Match.
The Spartans fought Bravely to the Last Man.
But with 4 of our Starters out with injuries, The Phalanx could not
hold.
Demetri Poniros, Logan Michals, Alex Poniros and Jake Benner recorded 4
straight wins.
Then Costa Poniros, Zak Hertling and Patrick Parenty Ripped out another
14 points.
Danny Loizos, Orian Rovegno and Matt Wall racked up another 15 points.
But giving up 24 points in forfeits to the Green Wave was too much to
make up.
Nevertheless, It was a Great Night of Wrestling and a Great Season.
A Regular Season of 15-0 is not to Shabby. And Next Season is Looking
Just as Promising.
Good Luck to Costa Poniros, Patrick Parenty , Danny Loizos and John
Walsh at the All Stars.
On a Separate Note;
The Hero of the Night Was Max Rallo. Max was injured the prior week and
could of easily forfeited to Long Branch.
But Instead, And To All of Our Surprise,
Max, Very Courageously, Stepped out against the 90lb Champ from Pt.
Boro in our 1st match,
And then Stepped out against Long Branche's Best Wrestler and 95lb
Champ to Bring the Stands to a Standing Ovation.
We Wish Max a Speedy Recover and a Quick Return to the Spartan Line Up.

Some people listen to themselves rather than listen to what
others say.
These people don't come along very often.
But when they do, they remind us that once you set out on a
path,
Even though critics may doubt you,
It's okay to believe that there is no can't, won't, or impossible.
They remind us that it's okay to believe that
IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING!
Update: 1/31
The Spartans Are Middle School Tournament Champions For The 3rd Straight Year.
The Spartans entered the District White Tournament minus 3 Key
Wrestlers. But that didn't stop them from Devastating the Competition.
The Spartans Marched thru the Pre-lims, Quarters and Semis,
Placing 9 Wrestlers in the Finals for a Spectical rarely seen.
The spectators were in Awe as they chattered, "Its the

Blessed Be The Lord, Who Gives me strength and agility to
defeat my opponent,

rest.
BLESSED BE THE LORD, MY ROCK, WHO TRAINS MY HANDS FOR WAR,

Ocean 58-22 Barkalow
Well Spartan Fans,
The Spartans Declared War.....
Barkalow had beat the Spartans earlier last year in an off
season Tournament, However, When they came to Spartan Lands, They were in For A
Rude Awakening.
First, They're Star wrestler J. Shultz was man handled be
Captain Danny Loizos in a match that reminded me of the 149lb 2009 NCAA Finals
Between D. Caldwell and B. Metcalf.
The scrambles were intense with Danny Loizos coming out on
top. Matt Wall then erupted the stands with a pin over Barkalows Captain.
And the Rest was History After That.
Barkalow went home with there bags packed and a note that
said," Maybe You Boys aught to pick up Canoeing" Hehehe
Outstanding Wrestler goes to Danny Loizos and Matt Wall.
Great Job Spartans.
And Remember: Success is not final,
failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.
